Beacon House News

Many thanks to all of you who have donated time, talent and treasures to Beacon House during 2011.  All of your efforts have enabled our staff to help those in need in the communities we serve.

In December, with the support of many volunteers, 450 Christmas hampers were prepared, packed and distributed to families.

On average, we spend $13,000/mth on food for our clients.  This is over and above the $55,000 average food order we receive monthly from Feed Nova Scotia.  With one paid staff member to operate the Food Bank, these figures make it very easy to see why volunteers are so needed.  In order to provide the $13,000/mth to the Food Bank, we rely on the time and talent of the volunteers in the Retail Store.

Welcoming new volunteers is always a pleasure and we have a wonderful opportunity for you to find out “hands-on” what it would be like to volunteer.  On Monday, January 16, 7:00 p.m., our Manager, Nancy Perry, will be conducting a New Volunteer Orientation.  There would be no obligation for you to “sign-up” and I’m sure you would find it most interesting.  If you would like to join us, please e-mail Nancy at bhretail@ns.aliantzinc.ca.   As always, if there is anything you would like to know about Beacon House, please call me, Linda Stay, 252-5013
